The River Walk - Getting Close to Nature With Your Digital Camera

Anyone Can Do This

In a digital age, taking photographs that you can enjoy and be proud of is no longer restricted to the realm of the professional photographer now anyone can do this. It is also not limited to those who have the high-end SLR cameras with lots of fancy lenses of course having the right cameras and lenses helps but thats all it does.

One of my own favourite hubbers started out taking photographs on his digital phone and he got some stunning photographs using it too. Now Kevin has a digital camera and has had over one million hits on his photographs and earned over $800 online from his photographs and if you want to you can do this too.

Come With Me On My Walk

I would like through this hub to encourage anyone who owns even the most basic of digital point and shoot cameras to take it with him or her on a walk in their own area.

In an attempt to encourage people who would normally not think about taking their camera with them I would like to share one of my walks through one of my local parks so that you can see what you can find when you take your camera with you.

I hope that you enjoy the walk with me and that you get some ideas of what you might encounter in your own locality. Therefore, I hope that you will come with me on this walk and see some of the wonders of nature as seen through the lens of my camera.

We have a wonderful new park in Villajoyosa it is a river walk alongside the Rio Amadoria.

The Rio Amadoria

As you can see from the above photograph, the Rio Amadoria is more like a stream than a river. The Pantano de Amadorio, which is a local reservoir about 10 kilometres away, feeds the Rio Amadoria and this little stream meanders through the town until it reaches the sea. For about a kilometre the Amadoria has paths and park areas with places for people to sit and enjoy the various types of flowers both those growing wild and the cultured that have been planted.

Roses have been planted in several places throughout the park areas and though they did not look particularly special on this day by just selecting the odd rose here and there I managed to get some nice shots that I was pleased with.

Ducks - A Welcome Addition

The riverside itself is uncultivated, it has wildflowers, reeds, and rushes growing along its edges, which is the habitat for a variety of wildlife. Recently a family of ducks have taken up residence on this stretch of the Rio Amadoria they are a welcome addition to the park. The ducks duck seem to find all sorts of interesting things in the water and among the reeds.

Small Fishes

The water in the Rio Amadoria is beautifully clear and provides a home to all kinds of aquatic life. This little river is teeming with life the most numerous being these small fish that dart about in small shoals.

Flowers in the Park

The new park is an ideal place to take a walk with your digital camera. Walking along the paths, there are many interesting things to focus your camera on.

Alongside the path, there are cultured flowers most of which I do not know the names of but that does not stop me from enjoying them or from photographing them.

There are also many wildflowers that grow in the park too but unfortunately there are not that many flowering in the summer heat.

Riverside – The Insect life

Insects thrive in the riverside environment, though it is not always co-operative when it comes to having it photograph taken. When taking photographs of insects we need a little patience and a lot of luck. When you do find something of interest to focus on, take as many photographs as you can. You will not find out until you upload your photos onto your computer exactly what you have captured.

The photographs that turn out to be the best are not always the ones you expect. Even when the photos do not look particularly good on the LCD on the camera, carry on taking them anyway it is amazing what a little cropping and editing can bring out.

These photos are fantastic. What kind of camera do you have? I thought I took great pics - but mine pale in comparison...each of these is a screensaver. Is the color enhanced a bit? If this makes sense - they seem better than real...beautiful...thanks for sharing.

Hi rwelton, Thanks for the comment :) My camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 it is a point and shoot and I tend to use it in the automatic mode most of the time.

I normally use PhotoShop to edit most my photographs especially if I am going to use them on the Internet.

Most of my photographs have been enhanced some way and a lot are cropped so that they are in a portrait mode then I get a larger photograph on my page. If I leave the photo in landscape because of the page limitations I end up with a much smaller photograph so I take this into consideration when I take my photographs.

Hi Rick, That dog's face that can be seen on the duck's beak is really cool Lol.. It was my son who pointed the dog's face out to me now I notice it on nearly all duck photos :) Thanks for commenting

Hi Vasantha,I spent over three hours on this walk and took over two hundred photographs so these are my pick of the crop :) I am glad that you liked the ducks did you notice the dog's face that can be seen on the duck's beak?

WOW - you had me at the first shot of the colorful buildings! And the arch at the end is exquisite too! They are all beautiful and I have a camera I'm saving for that might get close-ups like yours. Right now I have an irritating camera that pauses at least 30 to 45 seconds between shots and I have lost so many animated shots of my granddaughter, our pets or even leaves blowing in the wind which causes blurring. I do agree, though, we can get many amazing photos with a simple point and shoot.

This was very enjoyable!

Hi Poohgranma, I am so pleased that you have enjoyed the photographs, Villa is a lovely place and the light is superb though at times it can be a little too bright.

I sometimes use one of my son's Digital SLR cameras (on fully automatic) and that fires off shots like a machine gun.

All these photographs though were taken with my point and shoot Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 and that takes about a second or two to refresh which can make the difference between getting a shot and missing it so I know what you mean. The refresh rate is why most of these are taken at 5 megapixels because the higher I set the pixels the larger the image and the slower the refresh rate gets and for my purposes 5 mega pixels is large enough to produce a good quality image suitable for the Internet.

When I use my son's camera I can shoot 10 megapixel photos in rapid sucession like you hear the press photographers doing, it can run away with you Lol...

Lol.. Ethel, once you have seen that dogs face in the beak it is hard to see it as just a beak anymore :)

I am overjoyed that you liked the photographs taken in our little river walk.

We are lucky Villajoyosa is such a pretty place and the light has a special quality that makes even the ordinary look good in a photograph.

Thank you for your super comment it has really blesssed me :)

Hi Graham Since my son pointed out the dogs face on the beak I have noticed it on nearly every duck that I have seen since.

It is amazing to me when it is so clear that in all my my years (two less than you lol..) I never noticed it before and I am sure I would have gone on not noticing if it hadn't been pointed out.

I just wonder how many other things go on un-noticed by me every day.

Another beautiful hub maggs;you are indeed a genius with that camera;I felt as if I was there with you.

There is one complaint and that is that I cannot bookmark your hubs;there isn't the link to do this.

It's not just your hubs it has also happened when I wanted to bookmark hubs from other in the last few days.

If you din't know why I'll get on to the support team.

Anyway it didn't take any of the beauty and wonder from this hub. So an Up up and away here.

Take care maggs and I wish you a wonderful day.

Eddy.

Thank you Eddy so much for your lovely comment, as for the bookmark link I don't know why but since the recent changes I find it hard to find some things. It must be something to do with my age lol...

It took me ages to find the new location for the follow button and even now I still sometimes have to search for it. I find it the same in some supermarkets when they change things round and asking for where something is in Spanish is not always easy especially if you don't know the items Spanish name.

The good news is I still know where the buttons on my camera are thank goodness some things stay the same :D
